
According to a recently obtained access-to-information request from Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services, 1079 Registered Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, and Licensed Practical Nurses left the system in the last two years.
Across all zones and positions, there were 772 resignations and 157 retirements.
In the Central Zone, those who left included 106 RNs and 80 LPNs. There were 5 left due to medical reasons, 128 resignations and 23 retirements.
In the Western Zone, those who left included 87 RNs, 5 NPs, and 61 LPNs. There were 108 resignations and 31 retirements.
In the Eastern Rural Zone, those who left included 58 RNs, 5 NPs, and 47 LPNs. There were 68 resignations, 19 retirements, and 8 terminated due to not working for more than two years.
In the Labrador-Grenfell Zone, those who left included 114 RNs, 5 NPs, and 30 LPNs. There were 85 resignations, 6 retirements, and 49 terminated due to not working for more than two years.
In the Eastern Urban Zone, those who left included 418 RNs, 9 NPs, and 148 LPNs. There were 338 resignations, 78 retirements, 65 terminated due to not working for more than two years, 12 due to medical reasons, 6 resigned and ported to the provincial government, and 14 due to other reasons.
To protect personal information, NLHS redacted data where the number was less than five.
The data provided excludes employees on the former Newfoundland and Labrador Centre for Health Information (NLCHI) payroll.
