
A recently obtained access-to-information request reveals that Memorial University’s Vice-Presidents spent $130,415.78 on travel and hosting from February 2, 2023, to April 4, 2024.
The Provost and Vice-President (Academic) spent $27.91 on travel, the Vice-President (Indigenous) spent $17,438.70 on travel and $636.62 on hosting, the Vice-President (Administration and Finance and Advancement) spent $2,542.22 on travel and $1,322.63 on hosting, the Vice-President (Grenfell Campus) spent $16,774.95 on travel and $922.21 on hosting, the Vice-President (Marine Institute) spent $45,641.97 on travel and $6,089.12 on hosting, and the Vice-President (Research) spent $32,632.64 on travel and $6,386.81 on hosting.
For the Vice-President (Grenfell Campus), $2576.97 for travel was not included because it was covered by another office, $5153.94 was split between the Vice-President and the Internationalization Office.
The Vice-President (Marine Institute)’s travel to Gallipoli, Türkiye, was not included because it was at the request of Memorial’s President to represent the university as a part of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador delegation for the Pilgrimage to Gallipoli. The Vice-President (Marine Institute)’s travel to Jupiter, Florida, was not included because the Vice-President participated in the factory acceptance testing for the Institute’s new autonomous surface vessel, and it was funded through the project. The Vice-President (Marine Institute)’s travel to the MATE ROV competition in Boulder, Colorado, was not included because the Vice-President is one of the mentors for the Eastern Edge Robotics team (the team is comprised of Memorial students) and travelled to support the team.
The Vice-President (Research) has a $3569.00 travel advance that was not included because it will be expensed in June 2024.
