After Mattbarter.ca published Memorial University’s investigation report into former President Neil Bose, which concluded he violated the university’s Conflict of Interest Policy and procedures, allNewfoundlandLabrador followed up with an article on the report, including comments from the university.
Memorial stated that Associate Vice-President Harlow and Global Partnerships Jingjing Xu resigned in September and is no longer with the university. It also stated that it is recruiting a general manager for Harlow Campus instead of another associate vice-president.
Historically, Harlow Campus was overseen by a general manager with a salary of about $90,000. However, Bose decided to create an associate vice-president position without consultation and appointed Xu, his personal friend and co-author, to the role without a public competition.
Vice-presidents at Memorial earn more than double the salary of the Harlow Campus general manager. The salary for Xu’s position remains unknown, and Memorial is currently before the Supreme Court seeking to prevent the release of her employment contract, despite a recommendation from the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner to disclose it.
