A recently obtained access-to-information request from NL Health Services reveals MRI wait times in days for Fiscal Year 2024/25 Quarter 1 (April 1 to June 30, 2024) and Fiscal Year 2024/25 Quarter 2 (July 1 to September 30, 2024). The data is by zone, including the Central Zone, Eastern Zone, and Western Zone. 

In the Central Zone, for Quarter 1, the median wait time for non-urgent scans was 124.5 days. For urgent scans, it was 21 days. For Quarter 2, the median wait time for non-urgent scans was 141.5 days. For urgent scans, it was 28 days. 

In the Eastern Zone, for Quarter 1, the median wait time for non-urgent scans was 435 days. For urgent scans, it was 18 days. For Quarter 2, the median wait time for non-urgent scans was 281 days. For urgent scans, it was 42 days. 

In the Western Zone, for Quarter 1, the median wait time for non-urgent scans was 48 days. For urgent scans, it was 14.5 days. For Quarter 2, the median wait time for non-urgent scans was 113 days. For urgent scans, it was 20 days.

The median wait time is based on the number of days patients waited, from the date the referral was received to the date of the completed MRI appointment. 

Half of all patients waited the median time before receiving care. 

The Eastern Zone data excludes Pediatric (Janeway) and inpatients. The Western Zone and Central Zone data provided also excludes inpatients.
