
A recently obtained access-to-information request reveals the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador’s Department of Transportation and Infrastructure spent $15,670,177.21 to operate six ferries from July 11, 2023, to July 2, 2024.
The Ramea – Grey River – Burgeo route, serviced by the MV Gallipoli vessel, incurred costs of $2,361,718.89 in salaries, $771,158.33 in fuel, and $762,495.88 in operating expenses, totalling $3,895,373.10.
The Gaultois – McCallum – Hermitage route, serviced by the MV Marine Eagle vessel, incurred costs of $304,153.47 in fuel and $2,068,203.18 for the contract, totalling $2,372,356.65.
The Rencontre East – Bay LArgent – Pools Cove route, serviced by the MV Terra Nova vessel, incurred costs of $340,990.32 in fuel and $2,075,421.40 for the contract, totalling $2,416,411.72.
The Francois – McCallum – Hermitage route, serviced by the MV Marine Trader, incurred costs of $480,672.01 in fuel and $1,990,312.06 for the contract, totalling 2,470,984.07.
The La Poile – Rose Blanche route, serviced by the MV Challenge One, incurred costs of $213,246.54 in fuel and $2,118,865.56 for the contract, totalling of $2,332,112.10.
The South East Bight – Petite Forte route, serviced by the MV Marine Coaster III, incurred costs of $86,870.48 in fuel and $2,096,069.09 for the contract, totalling 2,182,939.57.
