Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN) has withdrawn its Supreme Court application after attempting to block the release of the employment contract for Associate Vice-President (Harlow and Global Partnerships) and General Manager Jingjing Xu.
Former MUN President Neil Bose was found to have violated the university’s conflict of interest policy and related procedures.
Investigator Chantelle MacDonald Newhook found that Bose was in “a real, perceived, and potential conflict of interest” in the interim appointment of Jingjing Xu as Associate Vice-President Harlow Campus.
MacDonald determined that Bose had a private interest in the appointment due to his co-authorship with Xu.
According to the contract, Xu’s salary was €120,000 per year, equivalent to $190,584 CAD, more than double the roughly $90,000 historically paid to a general manager to oversee the Harlow Campus.
Xu resigned from the position in the fall of 2025.
