On January 21, 2026, the Member of the House of Assembly for Corner Brook, Jim Parsons, took to social media to highlight Grenfell Campus’s achievements and its “solid footing,” despite Memorial University’s restructuring, which lowers the Vice-President Grenfell role to a Deputy Provost shared with the Labrador Campus.

Parsons said that Grenfell recently celebrated its 50th anniversary and has over 1,200 students and 100 faculty members teaching more than 200 courses each semester. He said it contributes $30 million directly to Corner Brook’s economy.

Parsons said that the program offerings at Grenfell have been consistent over the last ten years, and that work continues to increase student recruitment and retention.

He said that while it is important to stand up for Grenfell to the university leadership in St. John’s, “let’s not misplace that passion and indulge in public rhetoric that damages Grenfell’s reputation.” Parsons claims that the Board of Regents knows the value of Grenfell Campus and its special place in the province.

“We need to attract students if we want to grow and strengthen Grenfell, so let’s take care to advocate without inflicting additional harm on ourselves,” said Parsons.
