An obtained access-to-information request reveals that the St. John’s Regional Fire Department did not ask protesters in support of Palestine to vacate Memorial University’s Arts and Administration Building during their occupation this past summer. 

In an email exchange dated July 9, 2024, Captain Cara Pardy briefed Fire Chief Sherry L. Colford on their response to the situation. Pardy stated, “There wasn’t anything mentioned by us to the protestors to indicate they would have to leave the building.”
