A recently obtained access-to-information request reveals that the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador’s Department of Education spent $90,469.82 on four recruitment trips from March 5, 2020, to January 28, 2024.
The Apply to Teacher Fair in Toronto, which took place from March 5 to 6, 2020, totalled $9,226.48, including $3552.35 for the registration fee, $3,432.33 for flights, $1,404.34 for accommodations, $274.65 for meals, $483 for other expenses, and $79.81 for mileage.
The Apply to Ed Teacher Fair in Toronto, which took place from April 19 to 22, 2023, totalled $8,226.77, including $5277.35 for registration, $1,381.89 for flight, $1,101.16 for hotel, $195.18 for meals, and $271.19 for other expenses.
The ECE International Recruitment in South Korea from October 1 to 10, 2023, totalled $70,289.43, including $25,221.90 for accommodations, $11,319.15 for meals, $537.88 for taxi, $10.38 for personal vehicle travel, $2,096.67 for other expenses, $26,016.45 for airfare, $2,036 for translation services, and $3,052 for online advertising.
The MSVU Atlantic Ed Student Teacher Fair in Halifax, which took place from January 27 to 28, 2024, totalled $2,727.14, including $854.74 for the flight, $365.34 for the car rental, $800.72 for the hotel, $466.34 for other travel and related expenses, and $240 for registration.
