A recently obtained access-to-information request reveals that Memorial University paid $180,935.89 to the law firms Stewart McKelvey and McInnes Cooper between June 28, 2025, and April 17, 2026.
Total payments to Stewart McKelvey amounted to $75,977.16, while total payments to McInnes Cooper amounted to $104,958.73.
Stewart McKelvey handled an annual audit, Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner reports, human rights complaints, judicial reviews, a vexatious litigant, Nape V Memorial University, and other legal matters.
The lawyers involved were Maureen Ryan, Koren Thomson, Ruth Trask, Josh Merrigan, Stephen Penney, Sarah Byrne, Susan Norman, and Dana Constantine.
McInnes Cooper handled a human rights settlement agreement, a group grievance, a duty of fair representation complaint, a claim for retroactive pay and banked leave, a claim for breach of an employment contract, immigration advice, general labour and employment advice, collective bargaining, and other legal matters.
The lawyers involved were Darren Stratton, Karen Holloway, Stephanie Sheppard, and Meghan Felt.
