A recently obtained access-to-information request reveals that Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services spent $3,096,714 on staffing agency nurses in March 2026.
Of the total, -$446,446 was recorded in the Eastern Zone, $2,177,279 in the Central Zone, $778,624 in the Western Zone, and $587,257 in the Labrador-Grenfell Zone.
NLHS noted that it posted adjusting entries in March as part of its year-end review and close-out. As a result, some amounts were negative to ensure expenses were accounted for in the correct fiscal period. NLHS operates on a fiscal year that runs from April 1 to March 31.
Total spending on agency nurses through the end of February 2026 was $373,404,274, bringing the total through the end of March 2026 to $376,500,988.
