St. John’s lawyer Bob Buckingham has expressed concerns about the conduct of senior Memorial University officials regarding their handling of my 2021 silent protest. Buckingham stated:
“You have raised serious and significant issues respecting the conduct and ethics of senior university officials for which they should be held accountable. If the facts are as you have set out respecting their conduct in fabricating a false narrative to impose punitive university sanctions against an individual involved in a peaceful protest, [it] raises issues about what other advice they have provided to the university administration and Board of Regents to advance personal agendas.”
Buckingham added, “I doubt the administration will further investigate these two [General Counsel Scott Worsfold and Conduct Officer Jennifer Browne], but your work to ensure they remain under public scrutiny is important, and one can only hope campus and public opinion will bring about changes.”
Buckingham’s comments follow the April 14, 2025, decision of Associate Chief Justice Rosalie McGrath of the Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador, which found that Memorial University’s disciplinary decision against me was unreasonable. The Court concluded that the evidence before the Student Code of Conduct Officer did not suggest that I posed a potential risk of harm to any person and found insufficient evidence to support findings that I intimidated anyone or caused a disturbance through my silent protest.
