A recently obtained access-to-information request reveals that Memorial University’s Geo Centre expenditures exceeded its revenue by $585,297 in 2025-26.

Total expenditures were $1,485,539, while total revenue was $900,242.

Of the total expenditures, salaries and employee benefits totalled $884,169, and operating expenditures totalled $601,370.

For salaries and employee benefits, Geo Centre spent $610,204 on contractual administrative positions, $155,113 on employee benefits, and $118,852 on student assistants. 

Operating expenditures included $27,762 on materials and supplies, $78,496 on Geo Gift Shop purchases, $5,269 on printing and duplication, $1,471 on postage and freight, $2,183 on marketing and promotion, $1,855 on licenses, $1,819 on institutional memberships, $8,080 on telecommunications, $6,392 on externally contracted services, $746 on professional fees, $7,261 on debt servicing (credit card/transaction fees), $3,626 on travel and hosting expense, $210 on capital equipment, and $456,200 on building operations and maintenance. 

In revenue, Geo Centre received $60,000 in provincial government grant(s), $43,070 in federal government grant(s), $130,000 through a transfer agreement (donation), $90,995 from Memorial University transfer, $331,867 from Geo Admissions and Tours, $85,932 from Geo events, $145,711 from Geo gift shop sales, $12,267 in net event revenue, and $400 in donations.
