A recently obtained access-to-information request reveals Memorial University spent $2,077,204.68 on the 2025 Canada Games from March 19, 2025, to June 19, 2025. 

The Canada Games Project Office – Office of the Vice-President (Administration, Finance and Advancement) spent $104,592.54, Student Residences and Ancillary Operations spent $3,409.58, Facilities Management spent $1,946,885.78, School of Human Kinetics and Recreation spent $13,495.00, and Office of the Chief Information Officer spent $8,821.78.

Memorial noted that external funding will be provided for $1,952,832.89 of the costs, and $1,943,703.51 is funding for the Aquarena renovation project.

As previously reported, Memorial spent $18,071,133 as of March 18, 2025.

To date, Memorial University has spent $20,148,337.68, the Department of Tourism has spent $10,186,000, the Department of Education has spent $19,039,400, the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure has spent $15,443,622.79, and the City of St. John’s has spent $15,805,983. The total spent by all five bodies is $80,297,165.23.
