On November 8, 2024, Memorial University President Neil Bose addressed a potential conflict of interest in the ongoing Provost search. In an email to Board of Regents Chair Justin Ladha, Bose outlined his connections to the two shortlisted candidates for the position.

Bose disclosed that he currently supervises one of the shortlisted candidates, Jennifer Lokash, and had previously co-supervised the PhD work of the other candidate, Rehan Sadiq, at Memorial. Sadiq’s doctoral work was completed in 2001, and Bose noted that they co-authored around 18 publications, with the last one in 2004.

To manage any perceived conflict, Bose informed Ladha that he had already disclosed these relationships to the search committee. As a mitigation measure, he proposed recusing himself from casting votes in the final selection process. Bose requested Ladha’s agreement on this approach and forwarded him advice from the university’s General Counsel Scott Worsfold.

In his reply, Ladha affirmed his agreement with Bose’s proposed course of action.

  1. How come board members aren’t required to use a @mun.ca email address?
