On November 16, 2024, Lisa Moores, Vice-President External of the Memorial University of Newfoundland Faculty Association (MUNFA), sent a letter to Board of Regents Chair Justin Ladha, raising concerns about an alleged conflict of interest involving President Neil Bose on the Provost search committee.

Moores pointed out that Bose, who serves as the Chair of the Provost search committee, had previously supervised one of the short-list candidates during their graduate studies. She requested clarification on whether the university adhered to its Conflict of Interest Policy and Procedures for Disclosing and Assessing Conflicts of Interest in handling the situation.

In her letter, Moores emphasized the importance of maintaining integrity in the hiring process, stating:

“It is in the best interests of our University that this process be conducted in a manner that is beyond reproach. Our University has had more than enough turmoil in recent years, which has caused harm to its reputation and created mistrust of institutional processes. The last thing we need is another issue that distracts us all from the core mission of Memorial University. As a result, Dr. Bose should recuse himself from the process.”
