A recently obtained access-to-information request reveals the number of non-academic appeal complaints (filed by students against faculty, staff, or administration) at Memorial University from February 26, 2020, to May 16, 2024.
There was a total of 35 complaints, with 25 complaints brought forward by undergraduate students and ten brought forward by graduate students.
There were six concerns brought forward by faculty and staff. The Student Support Office stated they included faculty and staff numbers in the “Number of Complainants” column because those individuals contacted the office to consult about the policy or to gather information to provide to a student who was experiencing some concerns. These individuals took no official action under the policy as they cannot.
Six complaints were resolved informally, and 11 formal complaints were filed.
23 complaints resulted in no action being taken, or did not meet the criteria of the policy.
Non-academic complaints from January 1, 2015, to February 25, 2024, are available here.
