The MUN Students for Palestine posted on social media on July 17, 2024, that Memorial University President Neil Bose stated that there was an ongoing investigation into the behaviour of Board of Regents Chair Glenn Barnes.
Barnes was allowed to chair the July 11 meeting of the Board of Regents, which included a discussion on the student protest while under investigation for “inappropriate” and “unprofessional” behaviour.
Students launched a click-to-email campaign to members of the Board of Regents to share their position on MUN’s investment of over seven million dollars in weapons manufacturing companies.
In an email correspondence shared by MUN Students for Palestine, Barnes said that the emails were “personally intrusive and insulting to a volunteer board!” He recognized some of the senders and forwarded those emails to their parents, who he knew personally, including the parent of an adult alumna.

In another email, Barnes said, “I am telling parents that I know just what their kids are doing. Theres is not the only viewpoint, but this group think they are correct and that MUN ought to be in lockstep with them. They need to grow up.”
MUN Students for Palestine allege that Barnes violated confidentiality by forwarding emails he received as chair of a public board to third parties.
Interestingly, MUN Students for Palestine raised concerns about Barnes on July 4, 2024, the day before Memorial called the police on the protestors and seven days before the Board of Regents meeting.
