On March 26, 2024, Ronald McDonald House’s Director of Development and Communications, Christina Morgan, contacted the Minister of Digital Government and Service NL Sarah Stoodley regarding concerns they had with the Lottery Licencing Office.
Morgan stated that they had a few applications that needed to be processed at Lottery Licencing for several weeks. When they finally connected with the office via telephone, they were informed that the office was short-staffed, behind by 20 business days, and had about 200 licences backed up in the system.
Morgan said that the Ronald McDonald House had to cancel some of their applications because the draw dates requested had passed.
Morgan stated that it was having a serious impact on their fundraising and for all charities and not-for-profit organizations.
Minister Stoodley penned a letter to Morgan thanking her for getting in touch and stated that Divisional resources have been re-assigned to ensure lottery licence applications are being addressed in a timely manner and to address the backlog.
