June 3, 2011: Senate of Canada page Brigette DePape carried a sign that read “Stop Harper” and walked out in front of Governor General David Johnston. She stood in the middle of the Senate floor and held up the sign as the Governor General delivered his speech from the throne. DePape was fired for violating the non-partisan requirement of the position, but she was not accused of harassment by anyone.
December 2, 2021: Memorial University student Matt Barter held up a sign that read “Stop Vianne: No to tuition hikes and out of control spending” and stood off to the side during the president’s speech. The university accused him of harassment, banned him from campus for three months, and then sanctioned him.
