
A recently obtained access-to-information request reveals Memorial University’s School of Medicine yearly Chair’s Report on admissions from 2006 to 2022-2023.
For the 2022-2023 year of the total number of applications, 65 percent were from women; in Newfoundland and Labrador, 66 percent were from women.
The Admissions Office received a total of 587 applications for the 2022-2023 cycle. However, 33 were closed due to a failure to submit MCAT scores by published deadlines (18 applicants), missing transcripts (11 applicants), missing references (2 applicants), and other reasons (2 applicants).
A total of 102 offers were made for 76 acceptances, with two applicants from Newfoundland and Labrador being granted deferrals to register for first-year medical studies in August 2024.
The Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) average was 504/528. A wide variety of degree programs and universities/colleges were represented, with the mean overall average of 85.03 percent. The average post-secondary year of study was 5.6 years. 23 students had a bachelor’s degree, 28 honours, 24 masters, 1 diploma, and 2 doctorate.
