
An access-to-information request has recently uncovered a series of complaints sent to NL Housing from July 11, 2023, to December 4, 2023, shedding light on concerning conditions within private shelters and hotels.
One shelter has been flagged for distressing issues such as bed bug infestations and the presence of rat and mice feces throughout the facility.
Disturbingly, residents at another shelter reported the absence of essential amenities, including stoves, microwaves, toasters, kettles, and laundry access.
Another complaint highlighted the deplorable state of a shelter, deeming it unfit due to the lack of door locks, rampant smoking, drug use, and an unbearable stench.
