A recently obtained access-to-information request from Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services reveals emergency ambulance response times for base areas from December 9, 2024, to January 10, 2025.

The longest response times were 134.22 minutes in the Gambo coverage area, 126.20 minutes in the La Scie coverage area, and 125.93 in the Grand Falls-Windsor coverage area.

The shortest response time was 0.05 minutes in the Burin, Carbonear, and Health Science Centre (St. John’s) coverage areas.

NLHS noted that averages were not given because they claim averages do not provide an accurate account of response times and that an overly high or overly low response can skew the numbers.

NLHS also notes that calls are indicated in the coverage area that the base is responsible for and not individual communities.

The responses are also categorized by priority. Priority one response is for higher acuity calls where lights and sirens are used. Priority two responses are for low acuity calls where lights and sirens are not used and regular rules of the roads are followed.
