An access-to-information request reveals that the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador spent $40,578,454.75 on payments to individual properties declared uninhabitable due to Hurricane Fiona in September 2022.

The communities included Burgeo, Burnt Islands, Channel-Port aux Basques, Isle aux Morts, Margaree-Fox Roost, and Rose Blanche-Harbour Le Cou.

Payments ranged from $182,450 to $1,534,042.78. The compensation was based on the total value of the home and the land.
